Mahindra’s logistics app now in Chennai
The $19 bn Mahindra Group’s digital mobility start-up SmartShift launched its operations here on Thursday. The city is the fifth location where the firm has commenced business, after Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad.

Having launched last year, SmartShift is emerging as a leading industry player in these cities. The intra-city digital load exchange platform for cargo owners and transporters, enables them to efficiently transport cargo. Businesses and individuals can access the service using a mobile app (available on Android), the website or the dedicated call centre. The service is aimed at bringing about efficiencies in the last mile logistics space. The platform has serviced over 16,000 stakeholders, with about 1,500 plus transactions a day.
Kausalya Nandakumar, CEO, SmartShift, said, “The logistics industry in India is pegged at $130 bn with 3540 pc of it in the intra-city space. Around 18 lakh small commercial vehicles complete millions of transactions daily, across India.”
She added, “Chennai is in many ways the gateway into the largest state with respect to Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) penetration. Tamil Nadu is an evolved and penetrated market with a strong industrial base. It has the both the need and digital presence to adopt a marketplace model like ours. We will drive exponential value here.” The company aims to add value to 1 million stakeholders in three years.
