Telangana gets USD 50,235 Japanese grant

The signing ceremony for the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) for the fiscal year 2017 was held here on Tuesday. Grants were extended to Safe Water Network India (SWNI) - $50,235, for the construction of two water purification plants to supply safe drinking water in Medak District, Telangana.

The contract was signed and exchanged by Consul General of Japan at Chennai Seiji Baba, and Pushyamitra Sharma, Managing Trustee, SWNI. 

With an increasing demand from communities, SWNI has been addressing the significant water issues by creating over 180 iJal stations in Telangana, where people face chronic water shortage and unsafe, contaminated surface and ground water is only available source for drinking and cooking. 

Under the GGP, SWNI will set up two iJal stations (meaning My Water in Hindi) in Podichenpalle and Shankarampet in Medak district, Telangana, to provide safe drinking water access to underprivileged communities.
