Global mentoring summit for entrepreneurship in Chennai
To popularise mentoring as a potent tool for entrepreneurship and support initiatives like Startup, Standup and Skill India with a new movement of ‘Mentoring India,™’ Bhartiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) along with the CII as the strategic partner conducted the International Mentoring Summit on ‘Empowering Young Grampreneurs™ to Create jobs’ here on Friday.

This summit celebrates mentorship and discusses its impact on the economy and job creation. Lakshmi V Venkatesan, Founding and Managing Trustee, BYST, said “BYST has strongly felt the need to empower youth and create the eco-system for entrepreneurship, not just in big cities but in small villages as well. BYST trademarked Grampreneurs™ from the smallest towns and villages have the untapped potential to create jobs and solve the problem of joblessness..”
Since inception, BYST has counselled 525,000 youth, helped set up over 7000 ventures, facilitated loan disbursement of Rs.240 Cr through public sector banks and generated direct/ indirect employment for 250,000 with a success rate of 95%. Tamil Nadu has led the way by nurturing 1000 Grampreneurs™ including women from the grassroot.
Kishor Kharat, CEO and MD, Indian Bank, in his address, said “We are signing an MoU with BYST today for training of the officials/ faculties in mentoring. This will enable the bank to reach out and not only promote youth entrepreneurship but handhold these entrepreneurs in remote and underdeveloped areas of the country. The MOU also provides for the Bank extending loans to BYST entrepreneurs on liberal terms,” he added.
