Chemical industry is buoyant, alive in state: ICC Chief

Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in the Chemical Industry and has enormous opportunities for investments, said Vijay Sankar, President, Indian Chemical Council.

The Deputy Chairman of the Sanmar Group was speaking at the second edition of ChemVision on the theme, “Opportunities and Challenges in the Chemical Industry” organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here. 

The petrochemical sector will become a very important part of the energy sector, especially in a large consumption country like India. The Indian Government is very much focused in implementing the ‘Make in India’ scheme in the chemical industry, said Sankar. 


India is developing chemical and petrochemical industry in a very sustainable manner. Tamil Nadu especially, has a bright future for the chemical industry and with the support of the Government, there is a huge possibility to attract companies into Tamil Nadu, he added. The vision for the chemical industry should be “Make in Tamil Nadu”, he said.


TN is the second largest economy in the country and a major player in India’s exports, said K Gnanadesikan, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Industries Department (pictured). “TN is both a manufacturing and a consumer State and has a competitive economy which makes it a great place for development and growth.” He urged the industry leaders present to plan investments in Tamil Nadu for the next 3 – 4 years as there is a great opportunity for growth.
