“The direct flight service would be operated on all seven days a week between the two cities from October,” said Hiramatsu while delivering his address at the inauguration function of second edition of Global Investors Meet (GIM) here.
Chennai would be the third destination for ANA to operate a direct flight from Tokyo after Mumbai and New Delhi, where flights are operated twice a day.
Speaking to DT Next, Yasuo Taki, General Manager India, ANA, said, “Occupancy rate from Mumbai and New Delhi to Tokyo is over 200 and to expand the service to other parts of the country, this new flight service would be commenced in Chennai.”
Further, Taki said that in Chennai, they focus more on businessmen, cargo and tourists from Japan coming to Chennai and other parts of the state. Chennai also has potential for export as it is the ‘Detroit of India’, he added.
“It is hard to ignore the growth potential of Chennai and when nearby cities of Bengaluru and Hyderabad are factored in, the case of expansion becomes overwhelming,” he said. “We look forward to offering service to Chennai in the years to come and hope we can play a part in bringing the best of this dynamic city to the world,” Taki added.
