Talking about the film to DTNext, Haleetha said, “The film is a rural comedy that has Samuthirakani and Manikandan in lead roles. “Samuthirakani plays a happy-go-lucky character. This is something we don’t come across often. Manikandan plays his son. The film revolves around a father and a son,” added the director. She tells us that the film will be directed in a single schedule. “It will be shot non-stop in one schedule before we call it a wrap. We have been planning it in a meticulous way for quite a few months,” she revealed.
Haleetha also said that she had penned this script before Minmini and her anthology Sillu Karupatti. “It has been 10 years now since I wrote Aelay. However, I had to tweak it at various point in time so that it catches up with trend. I have discussed this story with my mentors Pushkar-Gayathri while I was their assistant. I am glad that they are bankrolling this project.” Pushkar-Gayathri said, “We have long nurtured the dream of bringing stories we love to the big screen. On that note, Aelay is a story we heard and loved, from Halitha Shameem when she used to work as our assistant director. So, when Sashikanth came up with the proposal, we were thrilled to be a part of it.”
