So, we had more responsibility when it came to presenting the trailer and made it to our conviction,” director Andrew Louis told DT Next. The film has been promoted with paying tributes to all-time classic thrillers in Tamil cinema like Kamal Haasan’s Sigappu Rojakkal and Vijayakanth’s Nooravadhu Naal.
“Those are milestone movies in Tamil. Though the genre is the same, Kolaigaaran will be unique in its way of storytelling. It may not be like Sigappu Rojakkal or Bommai. But it will be one of the best films of 2019,” he added. There is a myth in the Tamil industry on allocating huge budgets to veterans but not debutants. However, Andrew refuted the rumours and said, “The budget for a film is not determined by a director’s experience or his name. It depends on the story and the talent he has. Shankar’s debut film Gentleman was made on a mammoth budget. Atlee’s debut film, Raja Rani, too was made on a grand scale. So, it is the script that matters. When it came to Kolaigaaran, the producer gave me free hands. When a director meticulously plans his film, the budget doesn’t matter.”
