Rajinikanth’s biggest film, 2.0, which was made on a mammoth budget of Rs 543 crore, was recently released in China in about 48,000 3D screens. Though the film was originally supposed to release across 56,000 screens, the numbers got reduced at the last minute due to distribution issues.
On Friday, the producers of the film, Lyca, took to social media to announce details about the film’s release. “#2Point0InChinaFromToday. Star Alliance Ltd. is our distributor for #2Point0 in Mainland China. @2Point0movie releasing in a record number of 48000 -— 3D screens in China.”
While the film registered a record-breaking collection on the very first day, it failed to do well in the subsequent days as expected. Sources say that 2.0 managed to collect only Rs 14 crore in the first two days of its release. Despite releasing in nearly 50, 000 screens, reports suggest that the film is struggling to make the cash registers ring at the box office.
The film, which featuresRajinikanth in triple role as scientist Vaseegaran, Robot Chitti and 2.0, an upgraded version of Chitti, was originally planned for a July release in China, where Bollywood films such as 3 Idiots and Dangal have done big business. AR Rahman, who has composed the music of 2.0, had earlier tweeted: “2 point 0 in China on 56,000 screens. Premiere on June 28... Grand releaseon July 12.”
