Amala Paul out of Mani’s Ponniyin Selvan?

Earlier, there were reports that critically-acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam had approached actress Amala Paul to play a pivotal role in his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan. We also heard that the actress auditioned for one of the roles as well.

The latest update is that, the Aadai actress is no more part of the project due to various reasons. A source close to the team says, “It’s true that Mani Ratnam considered Amala Paul for a crucial character in the film. However, he was not happy with her recent look, and decided to opt for another popular heroine in Kollywood. An official announcement regarding the cast and crew of the film will be made by the end of this month.” Mani Ratnam has planned a 50 day shoot, from the first week of Decemeber in Thailand.


Ponniyin Selvan, which will be made on a budget of over Rs 300 crore, will also have stars like Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Keerthy Suresh, Jayaram, and Mohan Babu. To be produced by Lyca Productions, AR Rahman will be composing the music for the film and Ravi Varman has been roped to in for the cinematography.
