Why are you attempting to break the Guinness World Record?
Many cancer patients approach us for hair extensions and wigs owing to the loss of hair that accompanies breast cancer treatment. Having witnessed the effects of cancer daily, we wanted to create an awareness programme to reach as many people as possible. By breaking the record, this message might spread to not just people in the state but other parts of the country as well.
How did it come to fruition?
I conceptualised this along with Maha Academy and VELS institution, as we were taken aback by the survey that revealed a proportion of 1 in 8 women in the world are diagnosed with breast cancer. We framed the idea of breaking the Guinness World Record to do something about it.
Tell us more about the extension and how it serves the purpose of the campaign.
The entire 450-metre hair extension will be in pink, so when people ask about the colour, they can be briefed about breast cancer and the process to get even an insignificant lump checked. The 100 hairdressers and beauticians who will be braiding the hair extension have also been trained to direct people to self-examine and identify dangerous lumps that often go unnoticed.
