Chennai

I came to the city 22 years ago in search of a livelihood. Before becoming a flower seller, I tried my hand at various jobs. I was on my own with no one to help. I worked as a housemaid for several years before setting up my own flower shop in Anna Nagar. I live in Naduvankarai Housing Board. I have a son who works at a mechanic shop and a married daughter.

I always advise people to earn for themselves. It is okay to lend money to people, but not to borrow from others. Only our efforts will take us higher in life. I have gone without food for several nights. I am originally from Villupuram, where my husband resides now. I was working in the fields before my marriage. After coming to the city, I went in search of work as a housemaid. It is too difficult to find a job as a housemaid as the help of middlemen is prerequisite. We have to fork out a part of our salary as commission to them. After getting tired of it, I started this shop in Anna Nagar. With this earning, I am managing to eke out a decent living.
