M Sathish Kumar (28), Wedding photographer

Chennai

After my graduation, I remained unemployed for a few months. I wanted to earn money. This is when my friends started a wedding photography company. As I was good with the camera, I helped them. They paid me money on a project basis. I saved the money and bought a camera. Even though I started taking wedding photographs individually, we are helping each other with contacts of clients. After starting my own studio, I started buying more equipment such as lights, computers and new camera using my earnings. I do not get orders for six months in a year which are considered inauspicious. I use that time to edit photos and videos taken earlier apart from helping friends. I would meet various types of customers, some of them are arrogant. But I cannot afford to show my resentment to the customers as I would lose the project. Reputation is important in this field. Some people will treat us well and respect us. Also, this occupation needs frequent investment. I cannot sustain in this field if I fail to update myself and my equipment. I need to buy new cameras every time they are launched as the customers prefer updated equipment.
