Reporter’s diary: OPS’s short campaign schedule may have fuelled ‘saffron’ rumours

With the AIADMK, co-ordinator and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam clarifying the that he has no intention to join the BJP or any other party but will serve the AIADMK till his last breath, has put rumours of OPS going the saffron way has to rest, the question on why such rumours came around was answered on Friday after OPS camp released a revised campaign schedule.

AIADMK sources said that while Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had prepared a detailed 15-day schedule to campaign for the bypolls to four assembly seats to be held on May 19, the OPS camp had only released a schedule allotting just six days for the campaign.


However, the AIADMK coordinator had been camping longer in Varanasi where PM Modi in contesting for a second time. This led to speculation if AIADMK had become less important for our leader, according to party sources.


On Friday, the OPS camp hurriedly put together a revised schedule allocating more time for the assembly by polls putting speculation to rest.


Adding fresh fuel to fire, AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran had also started campaigning that the AIADMK leader OPS will soon join the BJP after May 23 and there will not be dual leadership in AIADMK.
