Boats may be deployed for Velachery residents

People who were marooned in the floods caused by rain water needed to be rescued with the help of boats in Tambaram. Now the resident associations of Velachery have asked for similar help as ground floor flats and homes are inundated

Heavy rain lashed Chennai from the early hours of Sunday morning causing water bodies to breach their banks. Lakes in the Tambaram, Pallavaram and Alandur regions breached their boundaries, and the excess water caused flooding of houses in these areas.

People who were stranded in their homes around Tambaram were rescued with the help of two boats.

As a preventive measure, Public Works Department officials opened the sluice gates at the Rajakilpakkam lake which led to the flooding of a section of Velachery Main Road.

Residents welfare associations in the area tried to contact officials to ask for boats as they have been stranded in their homes for three days.
