Silver Beach, a tourist destination, famous for its shoreline, much like Marina, has been severly affected by the recent rains in the district. The beach, which had amenities like bright lights, benches where families enjoyed the beach and a park for children, was a popular community space. The beauty of the beach attract¬ed numerous tourists from across India and the world.

The recent cyclone, which trigged off a heavy downpour in the region, adversely affected the districts. Silver Beach too was devastated in the floods. The beach, which already suffers severe soil erotion, had receded while the sea water turned reddish in colour.

The recent flood water brought the garbage and water hyacinth, which were scattered on the beach, spoiling its beauty. The children’s park is surrounded by flood water and is currently not usable.

The beach was earlier damaged during the tsunami in 2004, following which the District Collector, Gagandeep Singh Bedi worked for the restoration of the beach.

Citizens of Cuddalore and tourists are now demanding that the goverment to rehabilitate the beach to its former glory. They want the renovation and relief works to be done immediately to restore the elegance of Silver Beach.
