Kapico Motors India Private Limited service centre in Koyambedu has seen 61 vehicles being towed into the centre for repair work. Suresh Kumar, senior manager, service, at the centre, says that most of the vehicles have been sent to the centre for insurance claim purposes.

Water woes for vehicles

Suresh says, “The regular vehicles that come in for service have actually reduced during this period (the last 10 days). These are new customers and the cars sent in for service belong to different categories premium to luxury.”

He adds that the vehicles have been classified into three groups---A, B and C. “A group comprises fully flooded vehicles, while B and C are lever and running board categories. We have most vehicles belonging to the C group and they are predominantly from the Velachery, Thiruverkadu areas,” he says.Two-wheelers don’t seem to have had a smooth ride either during the rain. Battered roads and knee-deep water seem to have been the common causes for the surge in the number of cars and two-wheelers being impaired.

A service centre staff at TVS Ramkay in the Medavakkam area says that the scooties have borne the biggest brunt of the unrelenting rain. “This week has been really hectic for us at the centre. There is a sudden rise (almost 30 per cent) in the vehicles coming in for service around this time,” says the staff.

Mobile menace

The rain has also had a number of mobile phone owners looking for spare phones. A service executive at Firstcall, a mobile service centre in Adyar said that smartphones had it the hard way with many mobile users dropping them in water. “However, most of these cases have been reported by senior citizens. They are not able to guard them,” he adds.
