CM announces Pongal bonus for government employees

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced Pongal festival bonus for government employees, teachers and pensioners that would cost the exchequer an additional Rs 326.85 crore.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday had announced Pongal bonus for employees and pensioners. The sanction will cost the state government Rs.326.85 crore. The official statement from TN CM said, “Group C and D staff and teachers would get bonus equal to 30 days’ salary, with a cap of Rs 3,000 and the ‘A’ and ‘B’ categories of employees will receive a special bonus of Rs. 1,000. Meanwhile the pensioners, family pensioners and retired village administrative officers will be given Rs 500 as Pongal gift.” 

The Rs. 1,000 bonus amount will be given to state government employees including full time, part-time, staff under consolidated pay, Nutrition project staff, Anganvadi Staff, Village, Panchayat and Temporary Assistants, Contract labourers and Casual basis labourers. The special bonus will be given to officers, teachers and other employees in local body offices and government aided educational institutions on the scales of pay stipulated by the University Grants Commission, the All India Council for Technical Education, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and to the staff covered under the All India Service Regulations.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also mentioned that “M G Ramachandran, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu had started the provision of bonus and grace amount to government employees in the state. Following him, she had commenced many schemes and facilities to the state government employees to encourage them in discharging their duties with content, she said.
