Buses between Pamba, Chennai launched
Bus services are to be operated by KSRTC between Chennai and Pamba till the end of the of Makaravilakku festival on January 20. Security has also been intensified in the shrine as the festival draws to a close

Kerala State-owned State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has launched services between Pamba and Chennai. Official sources here today said new service will continue till the conclusion of Makaravilakku festival on January 20.
KSRTC Special Officer G Sarath Kumar said the bus will start from Pamba every day at 1700 hrs and reach Chennai the next day at 1030 hrs. In return, the bus will start from Chennai at 1700 hrs, Mr Kumar added. Meanwhile, a new batch of police officials has assumed charge at the hill shrine here as part of intensifying security in connection with Makaravilakku festival on January 15.
About 2,028 police officials comprising 18 DySPs, 35 CIs, 125 SIs, 1850 civil police officers are guarding the holy hillock of Sabarimala. In addition, RAF and NDRF armed constables, police officials from neighbouring states and Fire Force officials are also active.
NDRF Deputy Commandant G Vijayan and RAF Deputy Commandant Madhu G Nair also reviewed the security measures in connection with the concluding festival. DIG P Vijayan said, those who render selfless service by participating in the cleaning operations at Sannidhanam deserve honour.
