PMK CM candidate and current Dharmapuri MP Anbumani Ramadoss demanded a judicial inquiry into the water release from the Chembarambakkam reservoir which he alleged led to large scale death and destruction in Chennai city last month. Speaking at series of meetings organized by the PMK to meet the people in the 22 assembly constituencies in Chennai city limits, under “The Chennai we wish for” banner, he said the judicial inquiry would reveal facts about the exact number of people affected. He said that though Chennai received 1,600 mm rain as against the normal 1,150 mm, he said no proper preventive measures were taken resulting in devastation.

The people were angry with both Dravidian parties as they only complain and do not act, he said. Though the city was affected by flood in 1976, 1985, 1996, 2005 and 2015, the government had not learnt any lesson he lamented.

Referring to “the Chennai we wish for” he said all people want a Chennai which was similar to Dubai, Hong Kong or Singapore. It was to this end that people’s responses were being sought, he said. The final report on this would be released and then handed over to the government. Stating that the solution was with them, he said “give us the change and we will give you the progress you seek.”

Referring to the pamphlets being distributed at the three days meeting which started on Friday and would end on Sunday, he said the present government was filled with corruption and lacked governance. Though the government provided freebies, they were of no use.

Only when freebies were offered in education, health and science would it be really helpful to the people. He said PMK wanted the people to live with self-respect.  He called on the gathering to read the pamphlet and then give their response through the email ID given.
