A senior police official confirmed that an FIR has been filed against the doctor, nurse and a wealthy couple who bought Ramanathapuram-based Sakthivel and Kavitha’s baby, for infant trafficking, and that investigations will follow soon.
Kavitha gave birth to a baby girl in September 2015. However, a few days after Kavitha was discharged and the baby was kept in incubator, the doctor had informed that the newborn had died. They were later informed by a nurse that their baby was now with a wealthy couple, who had bought it from the doctor. When they confronted the doctor, they claim, they were harassed and were approached by the doctor’s team to accept another baby as theirs.
The couple, however, refused to accept the baby, asking for a DNA test. Sakthivel, who hails from Singarathoppu, on Monday said that he was approaching lawyers to move the court to order a CB-CID probe. Meanwhile, another FIR has been filed by a lady named Parimala against the couple, alleging that the couple sold their child willingly. When they began demanding more money, the couple refused and returned the baby, said the FIR.
