Rs 1 lakh robbed from firm in daylight
In a daring daylight robbery, cash to the tune of Rs 1 lakh was robbed from a private finance firm at Porur on Wednesday.

Police said Sivankutty (40), a resident of Kattupakkam near Poonamallee was running a finance firm at Porur. Sivankutty had gone home for lunch and when he returned around 2 pm, he found the front grille of his firm cut open and the money kept in the bureau missing. He has lodged a complaint with the Porur police. Police have collected finger prints and other evidences from the scene of crime and further investigations are on.
Old woman conned:
A con woman hoodwinked a 70-yearold woman on board an MTC bus and escaped with her three sovereign jewellery. Police said Dhanalakshmi (70), a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Valsarawalkam, boarded a bus to SRMC hospital. When she was boarding the bus, another woman passenger helped her get in and made the old woman sit next to her. She then told Dhanalakshmi that if she wore the gold chain to the hospital she will not be given any free treatment. The con woman then asked the woman to remove the chain and put it inside a bag. The woman then helped Dhanalakshmi to remove her chain. The con woman took the chain and put that inside the hand bag of Dhanalakshmi.
Dhanalakshmi then went to the hospital and after completing the consultation, she checked her bag to find her chain and fount it missing. She then lodged a complaint with the Porur police.
Teacher loses chain:
A 35-year-old private school teacher was waylaid and beaten up by chain snatchers, who managed to escape with her 5-sovereign chain.
Police said Navaneethu, of Pattinampakkam, got down from a bus at Navalarkuppam near Uthandi on Thursday. While the woman was walking towards her school via Kannagi Nagar, she stopped before a temple on the way to offer worship. At this juncture, a duo came on a two wheeler and tried to snatch her gold chain. When Navaneethu resisted, the youth hit her with the helmet. They beat her up again and she fell unconscious.
The duo robbed her chain before fleeing the spot. Passers-by who noticed Navaneethu lying on the road unconscious and revived her. Later, the woman lodged a complaint with the Kanathur police.
