She asked the party cadre to work diligently and ensure a thumping victory for the party. They would do well to provide the names of dead and ensure that voters who shifted to newer places are sent to booth level officers in the appropriate forms.

Names of those above 18 years also needed to be included in the voters’ list without fail. They should ensure that corrections or changes, if any, in the new voters’ list are intimated to officials in the requisite forms, the release said. She directed the party office-bearers to participate in the special camps planned by the state election commission on January 31 and February 6 in various places. This was necessary if the AIADMK was to win all 234 seats with big margins, she said, and added that they should follow the direction she would give when the need arose so that the party could score a massive victory .

Two special camps planned

As per the directions of the Election Commission of India, two special weekend enrolment camps will be conducted on January 31 (Sunday) and February 6 (Saturday) at all polling station locations to enable the newly eligible/left out persons to apply for enrolment and to make corrections/transposition of entries, etc., says a press release from the Chief Electoral Officer, Tamil Nadu.

The final electoral rolls of special summary revision in 2016 were published on January 20. A hard copy of the electoral roll pertaining to the area will be available at the camps for use of the public. Electoral rolls are also available on CEO’s website: http://elections. tn.gov.in All eligible electors are requested to avail this opportunity and visit the polling stations along with necessary documents.

For the preparation of error-free electoral rolls, the public are requested to give priority for applying in online mode through the website:  http://elections.tn.gov.in

JACTTA plea to EC for basic amenities

Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association (JACTTA) led by its coordinator P.K. Ilamaran submitted a memorandum to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni at the Secretariat on Friday.

The association requested the EC to provide basic amenities to teachers and government employees at polling booths and exempt teachers on health grounds from election duty. “We have also asked the CEO to give teachers the order appointing them in the voting booth three days before the polls.  Teachers and government employees posted on election duty arrive at a booth by 11 am and continue working till 11 pm the next day. So the election commission should provide food for them  while they are on duty,” Ilamaran said.

As deploying teachers on election duty hampered teaching-learning process in schools, JACTTA requested the EC to appoint employees for polling booths on a permanent basis for election-related work. “The CEO promised to look into our suggestions and consider whatever was viable for implementation. We will be meeting the Chief Election Commissioner soon to take up other demands,” he said.
