At a grand function held at YMCA grounds in the city, Jayalalithaa inducted them into the party fold and made them as primary members of the AIADMK.
Among those who joined the party included former Mayor of Trichy Corporation Charubala Thondaiman, former minister and a prominent name in DMK KKSSR Ramachandran’s son KKSSRR Ramesh, Aranthangi municipality chairman Meenal of DMK, MDMK’s Poovai Kandhan, actors Ganja Karuppu and Pasi Sathya. The list of people who joined the party also included two former MLAs and 10,000 women.
Speaking after issuing membership cards to them, Jayalalithaa said, “Everyone who works for the betterment of the society and welfare of the people will definitely attain great heights and there is no other party which does it better than the AIADMK.”
She said that many welfare schemes were implemented during her party’s rule and many more would be launched.
“All of you have joined the AIADMK, because of the development which our State has been seeing under my leadership,” she said.
The schemes introduced in Tamil Nadu were setting example not just in India, but also internationally, which was evident from the people visiting the subsidised Amma Canteens from other countries to replicate it in their country, she said.
The Chief Minister also said that everyone who joined the party should work tirelessly to ensure a thumping victory for AIADMK in the upcoming local body elections.
