At a time when the Union government is mulling on an alternative route to implement the SSCP, a team of officials inspected various parts in the island town after seven years of any active steps taken to implement the project. The officials initially went to Rameswaram temple and then travelled from Kothandaraman Temple to Danushkodi in a hovercraft.

In Danushkodi, they inspected the Rs 50 crore road that was laid between Mukundarayar Chathiram to Danushkodi. Then they visited Pamban bridge and Adam’s Bridge. Later, Rajive Kumar met the mediapersons and claimed that the main purpose of his visit was to inspect the areas.

“It is mainly a familiarisation visit to develop knowledge about the area,” he said. When asked about the pending SSCP, he replied that the case was sub judice and he could not discuss about it. Anantha Chandra Bose, chairman of VOC Port, Thoothukudi, was also present during the inspection.
