Jayalalithaa creates five new taluks
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered creation of five new taluks at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore to ensure streamlined functioning of the state revenue department and to easy access for the people to the latest government facilities.

The new taluks include Srimushnam by bifurcating Kattumannarkoil taluk in Cuddalore district, Andimadam by bifurcating Udayarpalayam taluk in Ariyalur district, Koothanallur by bifurcating Needamangalam taluk in Tiruvarur district, Kayathar by bifurcating Kovilpatti and Ottapidaram taluks in Thoothukudi district and Singampunari by bifurcating Tirupatthur taluk in Sivaganga district. In the last five years, the government had created 9 new revenue divisions and 69 taluks, Jayalalithaa stated in a release. The government had constructed a total of 377 buildings for the revenue department including seven collector’s offices, six RDO’s offices, 64 taluk offices, 54 revenue inspector’s offices and residential quarters and offices for 231 village administrative officers, she added. The current year will also see the construction of 16 taluk office buildings in 10 districts at a cost of Rs 48.39 crores, she said.
