Sources claimed that Dalits of Chinnapudukottai who have their burial ground on the edge of Brahmanapuram have to cross a rivulet to reach there.

Hence, they had petitioned district administration several times and even filed a case at the court to construct a bridge across the rivulet. At last, the Supreme Court granted them permission and based on the order, the district administration had allotted Rs15 lakh for the bridge.

On Monday, officials from district administration went to the village to lay foundation stone for the construction of the bridge and had obtained approval of caste Hindus in Brahmanakurichi.

However, later the caste Hindus opposed to ceremony of laying foundation stone for the project and sources claimed that a local politician who was not invited for the event was behind the move. Caste Hindus allegedly resorted to destroying the farm lands in Chinnapudukottai village, leading to violent scene in the area.

On information, police force have been strengthened in Chinnapudukottai village. Meanwhile officials are in talks with Dalits and Caste Hindus to commence the construction process of the bridge.
