Sources said, Muthusamy of Veerarakkiam in Karur, a van driver married Jayalakshmi (29) of Seerathoppu in Tiruchy four years back and she delivered a female baby 18 months back but it died after a few days. Meanwhile Jayalakshmi became pregnant again and she was sent to her parents’ house in Tiruchy.
On Wednesday, Jayalakshmi was taken to Kulumani PHC but, she was referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial GH as she developed complications. And so she was admitted in the GH at around 9.30 am and she delivered a male baby at around 3.30 pm through normal delivery.
However, soon after the delivery, the hospital nurses informed the relatives of Jayalakshmi that the baby died. The staff also wrapped the baby in a cloth and put it in a shopping bag for cremation. But when the relatives took the 'body', they sensed movements in the baby when they reached the gate.
Soon they ran to the doctor and showed the baby and the duty doctor also confirmed that the baby was alive and took the baby under observation and has been responding to the treatment.
Meanwhile, the relatives approached the GH police for lodging a complaint but the police reportedly refused to accept the complaint and asked them to report to the RMO in the GH.
When contacted the Dean Mary Lilly, she said that she is in Chennai and was not aware of it.
