A caveat is filed to make sure that the party involved in the case is also heard before a decision is made. The local body elections scheduled to be held on October 17 and 19 was cancelled based on the plea moved by DMK. Though DMK’s plea confined to reservation for Scheduled Tribe, the single judge, while rejecting DMK’s plea, had also cancelled the election owing to a flaw in the notification process. The DMK treasurer M K Stalin on Wednesday said they did not move the High Court to get the local body elections scrapped.
“We approached the court only to ensure the conduct of free and fair polls,” he said reacting to a query on Tuesday’s HC order and whether they would approach the court to get the state election commissioner replaced.
