This was their primary allegation in a joint representation to the top Coimbatore district administration officials, police department and prison authorities here. District collector T N Hariharan, City Police Commissioner A Amalraj and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons), Coimbatore Range, R Arivudainambi received the petition and discussed their grievances at the city police Commissionerate.

Important among the demands was a judicial probe into the cause of Ousir’s death. “We also want stringent legal and departmental action against those prison authorities found guilty of being responsible for the death of the convict (for their negligence),” Coordinator of the organisations K Raja Hussain said.

Releasing ailing and aged prison inmates, upgrading the prison hospital, appointment of qualified and experienced doctors in the prison hospital, conducting a full body check-up for all prison inmates to know their health condition and ailments were among their other key demands. Seeking compensation for Ousir’s family, the leaders also sought suitable government job for a member of his family.
