Police sources said the unidentified gang wielding deadly weapons, including sickles and machetes, came to the house of Gurusamy and ransacked his car. On noticing the gang, Gurusamy alerted the cops about the attack on his car.
Immeidately, a police team, led by inspector Soora Kumar of Keerathurai police station rushed to the site. However, the gang was in no ready to leave the spot and attacked the police with the weapons. As the situation was getting out of control and for self-defence, the police inspector fired one round in the air. Even as the firing was going on, one of the gang members attacked the police inspector, who reportedly sustained a cut injury. Preliminary investigations revealed that the gang attempted to murder Gurusamy over previous enmity. Madurai City Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav visited the spot on Friday morning and conducted an inquiry. In a subsequent development, police have secured four persons suspected to have been involved in the ransacking of Gurusamy’s car and in the attack on the inspector.
