Taking to reporters at the city airport before leaving for New Delhi, DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhil said the MP’s would meet the President as per party chief M Karunanidhi’s advice and ask him to take steps to get Karnataka to release water at least in conformity with the interim order of the Supreme Court.
Noting that over 11 lakh hectares of agriculture land have perished and both Kuruvai and Samba crops have failed for want of water, Kanimozhi accused Karnataka of violating the orders of apex court and Cauvery water disputes tribunal.
DMK Parliamentarians are approaching the Rashtrapati Bhavan close on the heels of the party and various farmers’ associations resolving to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi, as did their Karnataka counterparts earlier.
On Friday, DMK Treasurer MK Stalin met State Finance Minister O Panneerselvam and submitted a copy of the farmers’ meet resolution.
