Reporter's Diary: The excruciatingly long wait for Krishna to reach TN

Two weeks ago when this reporter met an official from the Public Works Department (PWD), he got some interesting information - that the Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Department had released Krishna water and that it was expected to reach in three to four days.

It made for great news and a follow up item was assured after three or four days. So on the third day, when this scribe eagerly called the same engineer expecting news in full spate, he was told, “It should arrive anytime now, give it one or two days,” by the same engineer. 

However, the wait went on for almost a week. Despite covering other news, this reporter did not fail to track the arrival of Krishna. When this reporter was losing patience after several calls, the official said, rather defensively, “Sir, water has to  travel 152 km, so it will take its time to reach us. Be patient!”  It was exactly 10 days later that Krishna water finally reached the Poondi reservoir, much to the relief of farmers, this scribe and the official. — R Lenin, Chennai
