Van driver killed in suspected drunken brawl

A 40-year-old van driver was stabbed to death at his house near Koyambedu on Friday morning. Police suspect that the victim could have been murdered following a drunken brawl on Thursday night.

However, the police said the motive behind the murder could not be immediately ascertained. The victim’s  house was situated above a ceramic tiles showroom. Workers employed at showroom found Devadas (40) dead with stab injuries. Koyambedu CMBT police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to hospital for the postmortem. Devadas, of Tiruvannamalai, was working as a van driver with a private firm at Padi. The police questioned the owner of the tile showroom as well as the employees. The police also conducted an investigation at the private firm where Devadas worked. 

According to the preliminary investigation, the police said Devadas seemed to have been drinking alcohol with someone in his room on Thursday night. They suspect that a quarrel might have broken out resulting in the death of Devadas. Police have collected footage from CCTV cameras that were set up in private establishments from nearby areas. Police suspect that  the accused could have boarded a bus from CMBT and escaped.
