Prakash, a resident of Madurai, had filed a petition in the High Court Bench her claiming that during the Assembly election in May 2016, there were reports of largescale bribing of voter in both the segments. Subsequently, the EC cancelled the election in the two constituencies.
Though, the Election Commission announced November 19 as the fresh date for polls in the two constituencies, both the Dravidian majors retained their candidates and hence there was a possibility that they might try to bribe the voters again. Hence the election should be cancelled, the petitioner prayed. After perusing the petition, the judges while dismissing the plea cited a Supreme Court order and said that there was no proof of the allegations.
