Police said on Sunday night, Dinesh (20), Aravind (21) and Madhubala (21), all construction workers from Agarathirukolakka street in Sirkazhi, had gone to a paddy field in the locality to consume liquor.

They had also taken a schoolboy from the neighbourhood and reportedly gave him liquor to drink. Later, the drunk youth allegedly asked the boy to dance and even captured the performance on their mobile phones.

When the boy returned home, his father sensed that he had consumed liquor and when questioned, the son opened up and narrated the incident. The boy also told his father that the youth had shared the video clip with their friends on social media. The father took him to Sirkazhi police station and lodged a complaint with the Inspector Alagudurai who registered a case and secured the youth.

During inquiry, the three admitted to the offence and were arrested under various sections. Later, they were produced before the Sirkazhi Judicial Magistrate Court and lodged in the Central Prison in Tiruchy. This is not the first time that action has been taken after videos of children being force-fed liquor circulated on social media.

In July last year, Tiruvannamalai police had arrested three men after a video clip of them giving liquor to a four-year-old boy circulated on WhatsApp. One of the accused was the boy’s maternal uncle and all of them were charged with attempt to murder.
