Today, last day for filing nominations for November 19 polls

With the last date for filing of nomination ending on Wednesday, Aravakurichi and Thanjavur segments witnessed busy activities on Tuesday. So far, 31 candidates, including dummy candidates, have filed their papers in Aravakurichi and in Thanjavur only 11 had filed nominations.

Interestingly, two independents, K Palanisamy and M Palanisamy, namesakes of KC Palamisamy, DMK candidate, filed their papers with the Aravakurichi Returning Officer on Tuesday. 

The filing of nominations for the Assembly polls in both Aravakurichi and Thanjavur, that will go to polls on November 19, commenced on October 26. Though the first day did not witness much activity in both the segments, the momentum picked up after the candidates of major political parties like AIADMK and DMK filed their papers.

The Naam Tamilar Katchi candidates were the first to file their papers. Both the Dravidian majors have retained their nominees in both the constituencies for the November 19 election as well. 

On Tuesday, the penultimate day for filing of papers, Aravakurichi witnessed 21 candidates filing their papers while Thanajvur saw only a meagre three candidates.

Since Wednesday is the last day, candidates of other politic al parties like BJP, PMK and DMDK are expected file their papers. And in Aravakurichi, the BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarajan, PMK president GK Mani and others are expected to arrive on the last day to accompany the nominees of their respective parties.

Earlier, the election to the two constituencies were cancelled following reports of largescale bribing of voters by an election committee.
