Addressing the media, he said, “Prime Minister Modi at one stroke announced such good news to stamp out black money, but it affected various sections of people due to improper implementation. Farmers, traders, labourers, fishermen and common people are undergoing untold sufferings,” he said and added that however, there is no solution for this pestering issue.

Stating that the Centre, before taking such a big decision, should have thought twice and taken alternative precautions, the state secretary said “the decision seems to be a hasty one and many have black money in the form of buildings and lands.” Mutharasan pointed out that there was no cash transaction in the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies and Central Cooperative banks. As the farmers have been depending mostly on these societies for all their farming operations and personal needs they have been hard hit by this decision of the RBI.

“Considering this, the state government and the Centre should allow cash transactions in these banks, as rural people largely are operating accounts in such banks,” Mutharasan said. He condemned the centre for printing Devanagiri letters on the new Rs 2,000 currency notes. The communist leader demanded the Centre to declare Tamil Nadu as ‘drought-hit’ state. He said that the crops in the Delta region wilted due to shortage of water.

“The government should provide solatium to the kin of the farmers, who committed suicide, since they could not cultivate crops properly,” he demanded. Earlier, Mutharasan participated in a seminar conducted by Construction Labourers Association (CPI) in Tenkasi.
