Sand miner murdered

A 56-year-old sand miner was murdered by his kin over previous enmity at Sokkampatti near Nagamalai, Pudukottai in Madurai district.

Three persons were arrested in connection with the incident. The deceased identified as Subbiah, from Melakuyilkudi near Nagamalai Pudukottai, was returning home in his car on Tuesday night. When he was traveling in the Theni main road, his vehicle was intercepted by a gang and he was kidnapped. Police found subbiah’s car abandoned in a secluded spot at Sokkampatti and he was found dead. His body was sent for a post-mortem. Investigations revealed that four months ago, sand miners, Kalyanasundaram and Sivapandi, kin of Subbiah, were arrested and their lorries were seized. Though Subbiah bailed them out the duo thought that Subbiah had informed the police. Ever since the incident, they developed enmity with Subbiah and planned to murder him. In the incident Kalyanasundaram, Sivapandi and their aide Muniandi were arrested and Balasubramaniam, brother of Kalyanasundaram was secured.
