Eye bank inaugurated at Tiruchy GH

In order to benefit the corneal blind population from economically backward families, an eye bank facility in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) was inaugurated by the Health Minister C Vijayabaskar on Saturday.

With the inauguration of eye bank in the GH, health officials said the eye bank mainly would motivate eye donation, subsequently procurement of eyes and transplanting the cornea through surgery for a corneal blind patient to get back their lost vision. 

“Recipient registers are maintained to keep a list of blind and eligible patients who would be called as soon as eyes are available from donors for being transplanted as soon as possible.” Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said while inaugurating the facility here.
