The fire which started at the first floor of Sathya Agencies gutted down the entire floor damaging several electrical appliances worth several lakhs. Fire and Rescue Service Personnel from Poonamallee, Maduravoyal and Ambattur were pressed into service.
Around 20 employees who had opened the shop in the morning, were cleaning the store when they noticed the smoke and alerted the fire control room.
Initial inquiries reveal that a short circuit sparked the fire on the first floor, however, the fire did not spread to the other floors of the building. The ground floor was used as the showroom, while the first floor had a stock of electrical appliances, and few staff live on the second floor.
Three workers who were trapped in the smoke on the second floor were rescued by the fire and rescue personnel.
“We brought them through the stairways. There was a lot of smoke in the building and they couldn’t find their way out,” said a fire and safety officer. The fire was put out and situation was brought under control in an hour.
