My neighbours often ask me why I place a bucket below the air conditioner. I use that to water the plants. Left-over water from bottles are also reused by me and my family like this. At home, we catch a bucketful of water for bathing, and avoid the shower as it leads to wastage. At the KRM Public School where I study, we are always told to use the water judiciously. The first thing we are asked to do is to immediately close the taps immediately after use.

Last year, around this time all, of us were struggling with excess water in the city but this year, we are facing the exact opposite situation. There has been no rain and people in the city are faced with water shortage. This shows that we are helpless before nature. After understanding that there is water crisis in the city and that lakes are drying up, I have decided to do whatever I can from my end.

The city is comparatively cooler now but when summer arrives, we will all consume more water and the water situation could turn critical. If we do not think of conserving water, we will have nothing left for us and the coming generations.

This write-up was provided by Preetha Josephine J of class 10, KRM Public School.
