OPS gives Rs 78.5L incentives to sportspersons, coaches

The State government has given Rs 78.50 lakh to various sportspersons and coaches hailing from Tamil Nadu recognising their achievements at international level.

Chief Minister O Panneerselvam presented cheques to various sportspersons, including a discus throw silver medallist and judo bronze winner in the 2014 Asian Para Games, at a simple function held at the Secretariat recently. 

The Chief Minister gave away the cash incentive in line with the government policy to encourage sportspersons  who excel in international tournaments, a government release said today. 

Others who received the cash incentives included K Santhamuthuvel, who bagged silver in discus throw, and R Vijayasanthi, who secured bronze medal in Judo, in the 2014 Asian Para Games, it said. 

Various chess players who won Grandmaster titles and coaches of sportspersons for the 2014 Asian Para Games were also rewarded. 

The Chief Minister also lauded the sportspersons for bringing laurels to the country and the state, the release said.
