Though the police have found the woman to be mentally unstable and most of her allegations fictitious, they are continuing the investigation and are taking the statements from the inmates, police sources said.

According to sources, a 26-year- old woman, who had been an inmate with the ashram, was found roaming on the road. When passersby questioned her, she is said to have told them about the alleged sexual exploitation taking place in the ashram. She also claimed that pornographic films were being shot inside the ashram.

Following this, the public handed over the woman to Pallavaram police. After the initial inquiry, police identified the woman as Sukanya of Thoothukudi. She had lost her 10-month old baby and had issues with her husband.

Later, she parted ways with him and was staying at the ashram. She was under treatment for mental illness, police said. Police said that the ashram houses 66 children, of which 42 are boys and the rest girls. They added that the inmates have denied the allegations raised by the woman. However, police have not completely dismissed her allegations as false and are continuing their investigation.
