“As 21 and 15 persons of the 312 and 175 arrested for law and order issues in Chennai and the rest of TN respectively were students, they would be released from all cases filed against them in view of their future,” the chief minister said.

Stringent action: Also, stringent action would be taken against police personnel if complaints of their involvement in violence during the riots was proved, the CM said. An enquiry was currently underway by an additional commissioner  with the help of the cyber-crime wing, he added. The chief minister also said that efforts were being made to construct a permanent fish market for Nadukuppam at an estimated Rs 70 lakh on the northern side of the area by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Temporary market: A temporary market would be set up in a couple of days on the kuppam’s southern side. This follows the spot inspection of the devastated site by a team of officials headed by fisheries minister D. Jayakumar. Chief Secretary, fisheries secretary, fisheries commissioner, corporation commissioner, chief engineer and other corporation officials also visited the site.

Similarly, compensation would be disbursed for the damaged property of residents of Nadukuppam, Ayodikuppam and Maatankuppam fishing hamlets after a survey by the fisheries department, the CM added.
