The arrested was identified as Munavar Sherif (25), who confessed to have killed Noor Hussain Ansari (27) over a professional rivalry. The duo hailed from West Champaran district in Bihar.
Speaking to DTNext, V Balakrishnan, Deputy Commissioner of Mylapore said, Sherif was working at a tailoring unit in Nungambakkam and was staying at Lloyds Road in Royapettah. Recently, Sherif managed to get his friend Ansari a job in the tailoring unit. Ansari worked hard and was soon promoted above Sherif. This irked Sherif and the duo got into a verbal duel ten days ago.
On Thursday, Sherif managed to bring Ansari to the Marina beach on the pretext of ending the bad blood between them. There, Sherif stabbed Ansari multiple times, killing him on the spot and fled.
The police said that Sherif committed the murder by himself. “It was Sherif who taught Ansari tailoring. But later, he felt that he might lose his job because of Ansari. Sherif had brought Ansari to the beach on a two-wheeler by offering to buy him dinner. However, he had planned to murder Ansari and had hidden a knife inside his pocket,” said a police source.
On Friday morning, an anonymous caller informed the Marina police about the body of a migrant youth with multiple stab injuries on the beach, opposite to the slum clearance board building. Police recovered his Aadhaar card to identify him as Ansari.
A post mortem was conducted at the Government Royapettah Hospital following which the body was sent to his native. Ansari lived near Vivekananda House with his brother Mohammed.
Body of unidentified man found in Adyar
The police retrieved the decomposed body of a man hanging from a tree on a ground in LB Road, in Adyar on Saturday. An anonymous caller had alerted the officials regarding the body in the afternoon. The officials suspect it to be a case of suicide, which might have taken place two days ago. Inspector Christin Jayasil said, “The man was wearing a brown colour shirt and is aged around 50. The body was highly decomposed to find any identification marks.” The police registered a case of unnatural death (CrPC 174) and sent the body to the Government Royapettah Hospital for a post mortem.
