Garbage lorry runs over bike rider
A two-wheeler rider was fatally knocked down by a garbage lorry at Vaidhyanathan Bridge at Tondiarpet on February 8 morning.

According to the police, Ramesh (24), a resident of Ashok Nagar, who works at a private company was coming on his bike on Vaidhyanathan Bridge when a garbage lorry that was following his bike suddenly run over it. Police said the garbage lorry was over speeding and the driver was driving the vehicle in a rash manner. Ramesh suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Stanley Medical College. Ramesh, however, did not respond to the treatment and died. The Washermanpet traffic investigation has registered a case and further investigation is on.
6, including two juveniles held for ganja peddling
The city police arrested six persons on Tuesday, including a woman and two juveniles for ganja peddling and seized 2.3 kg ganja from their custody in two places. The Kannagi Nagar police arrested five persons, including two juveniles and seized 1.2 kg ganja from them. The trade came to light when a police team conducted a secret inspection at a park near Kannagi Nagar. Police found five youths under suspicious circumstances and picked them up for questioning. Police then checked a bag that they were carrying and found ganja kept concealed in it. Similarly, the Basin Bridge police arrested woman ganja peddler Vel Azhagi (53) during a routine surveillance at K P Park Slum Clearance Board quarters area. Police seized 1.1 kg ganja from the custody of the woman.
Ex-convict arrested on robbery charges
The Maduravoyil police on Tuesday arrested an ex-convict Chellappan (45) on charges of robbery and recovered gold ornaments weighing 10 sovereigns.
