Panic after bomb hoax to Koyambedu

Tension gripped the Koyambedu market following a bomb threat call late on February 6 night and cops were on their toes throughout the night checking nook and corner of the premises.

The office of the Commissioner of Police received a call and the person who spoke said that a bomb would go off at Koyambedu market. Immediately, police and bomb squad personnel rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and conducted a thorough check of the entire the premises throughout the night. 

A team, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Navaneetha Krishnan with Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), inspected flower and vegetable markets. The intensive search went on till the crack of the dawn on Tuesday. During the search operation, traders and public were not allowed to enter the market. As a result, business at the market during peak hours, early morning of Tuesday, was severely affected. However, no explosive or any suspicious material was found during the search. 

After this, the police officials called of their search and said that the call was a ‘hoax’. The police announcement came as big relief to both the customers and traders. Meanwhile, police started a probe to find out the particulars of the person who made the hoax call. A special team has been formed to nab the caller. A police official from Koyambedu police station said that they tracked the call to Ambattur. “Though the special team has identified the caller, the person seems to be mentally-ill,” the official said. Efforts are on to trace him. Further investigations are on.
