Resort owner worried, only Rs 5 lakhs of Rs 60 lakh bill paid
The owners of Golden Bay Resort on Chennai’s East Coast Road, where most AIADMK MLAs, reportedly owing allegiance to party General Secretary VK Sasikala, have been housed for more than a week now, has run up a bill for nearly Rs. 60 lakh ever since the legislators and their assistants checked in on February 9, sources close to the resort owners have confirmed.

“What worries the owners is that till date, bills worth just around Rs 5 lakh have been paid. Once the Assembly floor test is completed on Saturday, the MLAs will vacate and we doubt if we will be paid at all after that,” hotel sources added. Meanwhile, the resort also saw its Google hotel review rating dip from 4.2 to 1.2 in just a week.
“We are worried that if this trend continued then we will lose what little business we have consolidated over the years” said owner B. Yogeswaran. The MLAs were taken to the resort in three buses on February 9 and soon, each legislator’s support group followed them in.
“More than 1,000 people are housed on the premises now which has compounded our problems in boarding and lodging them as the facility was not prepared to cater to such a huge crowd,” said sources close to the resort owner. As MLAs realised that “everything was on the house,” they had a gala time ordering whatever caught their fancy.
“Waiters were shouted at when orders were delayed as they did not know that the resort had only limited kitchen equipment to handle such huge food orders. Our kitchen stoves functioned 24/7 to handle orders from legislators,” a staff at the resort disclosed.
As the resort did not stock much liquor, legislators’ needs were met from stock obtained from Puducherry, sources added. The resort was started in 2011 by Yogeswaran’s father R. Bakthavatsalam, a former Lions Club governor who wanted to ensure a good business venture for his two sons.
“Though he initially purchased 100 acres in Koovathur village, legal problems delayed construction and finally, 94 acres were procured. The resort occupies only six acres said Yogeswaran whose father passed away two years ago.
