The victims have been identified as Raj Kumar and Santhakumar and the incident, suspected to be a pre-meditated one, took place around 3.30 pm at Ganapathy Nagar on Arcot Road, Porur.
Police said Senthil (50), a history-sheeter listed at Valasarawakkam station along with his friend had a verbal duel with Raj Kumar (55), a resident of the same area. Both of them were part of the Tiruvalluvar Taxi Drivers’ Association and are said to have had problems since then. Senthil summoned Raj Kumar to sort out the problem, but as the argument went on, Senthil and his friend suddenly pulled out machetes and started hacking Raj Kumar to death.
Santhakumar (26), son of Raj Kumar who rushed to the rescue of his father, was also hacked and killed on the spot by the duo. The assailants escaped from the scene before the police arrived at the spot. They retrieved the bodies and sent them to Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem.
Police, during investigation, found out that Senthil was a key accused and have launched a hunt for him and associate. Police said Raj Kumar, who was the district secretary of Tiruvalluvar Taxi Drivers’ Association, was having an enmity with Senthil, who was also part of the same association. Police said the murder seemed to be pre-planned as both Senthil and his associate had come armed with weapons. They had called Raj Kumar on the pretext of solving the issue and attacked him, police said.
Sources said the accused have already been picked up and their arrests would be recorded later.
