Gold, silver and cash looted from 2 houses

Burglars decamped with 46 sovereigns of gold jewellery and one kilogram of silver items from two houses in different areas of the city on Sunday.

In the first incident, the robbers looted 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 80,000 in cash from the house of a singer, working for an orchestra, at Ambedkar Salai in Saligramam. 

According to police, the burglars gained entry by breaking open the back door of the house. The residents, Satheesh and his wife Thillai Arasi, who works as a singer for an orchestra, had gone out on Sunday after locking the house. Upon returning home on Monday morning, the couple found the back door lock broken open. A bureau kept inside one of the rooms was also broken open and the gold jewellery and cash kept inside were missing. They subsequently lodged a complaint with the Virugambakkam police. 

In the second incident, the burglars looted six sovereigns of gold jewellery and one kilogram of silver items from a house in Kolathur. 

Police said, the owner Prakash had gone on a trip with his family on February 22 after locking the house. Upon returning home on Monday, they found the front door lock broken open. A bureau kept inside one of the rooms was also broke open and the valuables kept inside were missing. The burglars had also taken away the LED TV, gas cylinder and a stove from the house. Prakash lodged a complaint with the Kolathur police.
